From Texas to the Colorado Mountains: A Dreamy Fall Engagement Session at Officers Gulch

There is just something about fall in the Colorado mountains that makes engagement photos feel extra magical. The golden grasses, crisp mountain air, deep green pine trees, and those gorgeous fall colors all come together in a way that honestly feels like it was made for photos.
And this engagement session at Officers Gulch was ALL of that.
This sweet couple traveled all the way from Texas to Colorado, and I couldn't have been more excited to photograph them in one of my absolute favorite mountain locations.
The weather? Perfect.
The fall colors? Showing off.
The outfits? SO good.
And the two of them? Completely adorable.
It was one of those sessions where Colorado understood the assignment.
Why I Love Officers Gulch for Engagement Photos
If you've been dreaming about engagement photos in Colorado but can't decide between mountains, water, trees, or beautiful open scenery, Officers Gulch makes that decision pretty easy.
Because you get all of it!
That's one of the biggest reasons this location has become such a staple for me. You can have gorgeous mountain views in one direction, beautiful water in another, and then walk into the trees and suddenly have an entirely different backdrop. Every little area photographs differently, which means your final gallery doesn't feel like we stood in one spot for an hour taking the same picture over and over again.
We can walk. We can explore. We can get those big scenic Colorado shots. Then we can move into the trees for something cozy and romantic.
And yes, I'll absolutely have you walking hand-in-hand and laughing at each other just like these two.
Those in-between moments are some of my favorites.
You Don't Have to Live in Colorado to Have Colorado Engagement Photos

This is one of my favorite things to remind couples!
You can turn your trip to Colorado into your engagement session.
This couple came from Texas, and I LOVE when couples travel here and decide to document this season of their lives somewhere completely different from home.
You don't have to know Colorado.
You don't have to know where to go.
And you definitely don't have to spend hours trying to figure out which mountain is going to look the prettiest in your pictures.
That's my job.
I've spent years photographing couples and families throughout Colorado, and location scouting is honestly one of my favorite parts of what I do. Tell me what you're envisioning, mountains, lake, fall colors, snow, wildflowers, pine trees, something romantic and secluded, and I'll help you choose a location that fits.
And Yes... It's an Easy Trip From Denver!
One thing that sometimes makes people nervous about booking a mountain photography session is the drive.
"Are we going to be driving on some terrifying little mountain road to get there?"
Not here.
One of the reasons I recommend Officers Gulch so often is because it's a relatively easy trip into the mountains from the Denver area. You get those beautiful, dramatic Colorado views without having to plan some huge backcountry adventure just to reach your photo location.
That makes it especially wonderful for couples visiting Colorado who may not be familiar with our mountain roads.
You get to enjoy the drive, take in the scenery, and then meet me for the fun part.
Fall at Officers Gulch Is Something Special
Now let's talk about fall, because look at these colors!
Colorado fall sessions get a lot of attention for our famous golden aspens and for good reason, but I love all of the other colors that come out this time of year, too.
The golden grasses. The warm oranges. The deep greens. The little touches of rust and brown.
And then she showed up in that gorgeous burnt-orange dresswas perfection.
Choosing colors like rust, burgundy, cream, camel, deep green, brown, or other warm neutrals can look absolutely beautiful against Colorado's fall scenery.
You don't have to perfectly "match" the scenery either. Coordinating with it is usually much prettier.

Your Engagement Photos Should Feel Like a Date
I never want you to show up for engagement photos feeling like you're about to spend an hour awkwardly posing in front of a camera.
No thank you.
I want this to feel like you two.
We'll walk around, laugh, cuddle, explore, and probably be a little silly. I'll guide you the entire time, so you never have to wonder, "Okay... what do I do with my hands?"
We'll get the beautiful portraits for your save-the-dates and the photos Mom is going to want framed.
But we're also going to capture the laughing.
The looking at each other.
The walking together.
The little moments in between.
Those are usually the photographs that end up meaning the most.
